SECTION 6 – HEALTH HAZARDS – PROTECTIVE MEASURES  – FIRST AID

 
 

 


Carcinogen:      Not a carcinogen

EYES:              Corrosive to the eyes Use chemical goggles when handling. In the event of contact flush with water for 15 minutes Get medical attention if symptoms develop.

 

SKIN:  Corrosive to all body tissues with which it comes in contact. The effect of local exposure may consist of areas of superficial destruction of skin or of primary irritant dermatitis. Immediately wash affected area with water for 15 minutes. Rremove contaminated clothing and footwear Get  medical attention if symptoms develop.

 

INHALATION:           Inhalation of mist may result in varying degrees of irritation or damage of the respiratory tract tissue.  These effects only occur when TLV is exceeded.

 

INGESTION:     DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING. Give several glasses of milk. Seek medical attention.

 

IN ALL CASES:          GET PROMPT MEDICAL ATTENTION IF EFFECTS PERSIST

PRIMARY ROUTES OF ENTRY:      Skin, eyes, inhalation.

HYGIENE:      Avoid contact.  Wash immediately if contact occurs.

 

SECTION 7 – PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING, STORAGE AND USE

 
 

 

 


SPILLS AND LEAKS:            Stop leak, contain remove material with vacuum truck. Neutralize remaining traces with any dilute organic acid such as hydrochloric, sulfuric, nitric, phosphoric or acetic acid. Then flush area with water followed by a liberal covering of sodium bicarbonate.  All clean up material should then be removed and put in approved containers.

 

STORAGE AND HANDLING:           Do not get in eyes or on skin. Product can react violently with water, acids, and other substances. Product is corrosive to tin, aluminum, zinc and alloys containing these metals and will react violently with these materials in powder form. Carbon monoxide gas can form upon contact with reducing sugars and food and beverage products in enclosed spaces and can cause death.

 

WASTE DISPOSAL:  In accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.

 

EMPTY CONTAINERS:        Send to a reconditioning firm or return to Wausau Chemical Corporation
