Carcinogen: No.
EYES: Extremely corrosive to the eyes with possible permanent damage. Use chemical goggles when handling this material. In the event of contact immediately flush with water for 15 minutes. Get immediate medical attention if symptoms develop.
SKIN: Extremely corrosive and destructive causing severe burns with deep ulcerations on prolonged contact. Use rubber or neoprene gloves and apron when handling this material. In the vent of contact immediately wash with water for 15 minutes. Get prompt medical attention if symptoms develop.
INHALATION: Mist or vapors can cause severe irritation or damage to the respiratory system. These effects are likely to occur when TLV is exceeded.
INGESTION: Corrosive to the mouth, esophagus and mucous membranes causing severe burns with vomiting, diarrhea and death. Fatal dose is about 5 grams. Drink large amounts of water or milk. DO NOT induce vomiting. Get immediate medical attention.
IN ALL CASES: GET PROMPT MEDICAL ATTENTION IF ADVERSE EFFECTS PERSIST
PRIMARY ROUTES OF ENTRY: Skin, eyes, inhalation, ingestion
HYGIENE: Wash
hands and face before eating or drinking.
SECTION 7 PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING, STORAGE AND USE
SPILLS AND LEAKS: Stop leak, contain remove material with vacuum truck. Neutralize remaining traces with any dilute organic acid such as hydrochloric, sulfuric, nitric, phosphoric or acetic acid. Then flush area with water followed by a liberal covering of sodium bicarbonate. All clean up material should then be removed and put in approved containers.
STORAGE AND HANDLING: Do not get in eyes or on skin. Product can react violently with water, acids, and other substances. Product is corrosive to tin, aluminum, zinc and alloys containing these metals and will react violently with these materials in powder form. Carbon monoxide gas can form upon contact with reducing sugars and food and beverage products in enclosed spaces and can cause death.
WASTE DISPOSAL: In accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
EMPTY CONTAINERS: Rinse and send to a recycling center or return to Wausau Chemical Corp.
