SECTION 6 – HEALTH HAZARDS – PROTECTIVE MEASURES  – FIRST AID

EYES:              May cause severe burns. Use chemical goggles. In the event of contact flush immediately with water for at least 15 minutes. Forcibly hold eyelids apart to ensure complete irrigation of eye/lid tissue. Get immediate medical attention if symptoms develop.

 

SKIN:              May cause severe irritation on prolonged or repeated contact. Use neoprene or rubber gloves and apron. Flush immediately with water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing. Get immediate medical attention if symptoms develop.

 

INHALATION:           Can be severely irritating to the respiratory system. Remove to fresh air. If not breathing, perform artificial respiration. Get medical attention.

 

INGESTION:              Corrosive to the digestive tract and may cause liver and kidney damage and possible death. Drink copious amounts of water. Do not induce vomiting. Get immediate medical attention.

IN ALL CASES:          GET PROMPT MEDICAL ATTENTION IF ADVERSE EFFECTS PERSIST

PRIMARY ROUTES OF ENTRY:      Skin, eyes, inhalation, ingestion.

HYGIENE:      Wash hands and face before eating or drinking. Wash soiled clothing before wearing again if contact occurs.

SECTION 7 – PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING, STORAGE AND USE

 
 

 

 


SPILLS AND LEAKS:            Utilize full protective clothing including boots, and protective equipment as appropriate. Contain spill in order to prevent contamination of waterways; neutralize with lime or soda ash. Flush with water in accordance with applicable regulations to waste treatment system. Spills of 1000 lbs or more must be reported to the National Response Center. 800-424-8802.

 

STORAGE AND HANDLING:           Protect container from physical damage. Do not strike containers or fittings with hard tools or objects. Keep container closed and dry. Store away from heat and oxidizing agents. Wash thoroughly after handling. Emptied container may retain vapor and product residue.

 

WASTE DISPOSAL:              Follow recommendations of local, state and federal regulations.

 

EMPTY CONTAINERS:        Rinse thoroughly with water. Replace and firmly tighten closures. Send to a recycling center or return to Wausau      Chemical Corporation.
