SECTION 1 - MATERIAL IDENTIFICATION

NAME:                        GLYCOLIC ACID-70%

FORMULA:                HOCH2COOH     M.W. = 76.05

SYNONYMS:             Hydroxyacetic Acid; Hydroxyethanoic acid

MANUFACTURER:   DuPont Chemical Corp

SECTION 2  - HAZARDOUS INGREDIENTS

HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL               CAS #             PERCENT       PEL/TWA        SARA III, SEC 313

Glycolic Acid                                        79-14-1           62.8–65.7%     N/A                             NO

Water                                                   7732-18-5       30%                 N/A                             NO

The total acid concentration is 70-72% with a typical free acid of 62,8-65.7%. At high concentrations, free glycolic acid exists in equilibrium with low molecular weight, polyester oligomers. Upon neutralization, dilution, etc., these components revert to free glycolic acid.
