SECTION 4 FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS
Flash Point (Method): NA Explosive Limits: Lower NA Upper NA
Flammable Limits: NA Auto Ignition Temperature: NA
Extinguishing Media: As appropriate for the surrounding fire.
Special Fire Fighting Procedures and Hazards: Use NIOSH approved self-contained acid suits. Keep containers cool with water using fog nozzles to prevent decomposition above 227 oF.
Unusual Fire & Explosion Hazards: Reacts with metals to form flammable and explosive hydrogen gas. Above 227 oF decomposition occurs to form toxic and corrosive fumes of flurorides.
SECTION 5 REACTIVITY INFORMATION
Stable: X Unstable: Hazardous Polymerization: Occurs: Does not Occur: X
Conditions to Avoid: Temperatures above 227 oF.
Materials to Avoid: Strong alkalis, strong acids, hypochlorites, metal, glass, stoneware.
Decomposition Products: Hazardous toxic and corrosive fumes of hydrogen fluoride, silica tetrafluoride and hydrogen gas. can form above 227 oF due to decomposition.

SECTION 6 HEALTH HAZARDS PROTECTIVE MEASURES FIRST AID
Carcinogen: No
ACUTE: Liquid or vapors can cause severe irritation and burns that may not be apparent for hours. Can cause severe irritation to the lungs, nose and throat. If swallowed, can cause severe damage to the throat and stomach.
CHRONIC: Prolonged exposure can result in bone changes, corrosive effect on mucous membranes including ulceration of the nose, throat and bronchial tubes, cough, shock, pulmonary edema, fluorosis, coma and death.
EYES: Flush for 15 minutes with large amounts of water. Eyelids should be held apart during the flushing to insure contact of water with all accessible tissue of the eyes and lids. Use tight-fitting chemical splash goggles and a full-face shield. Contact lenses should not be worn. Get immediate medical help.
SKIN: Flush with water for 15 minutes. Remove all contaminated clothing. Medial attention is necessary, even for minor burns. Use rubber or neoprene gloves and apron.
INHALATION: Mist or vapors can cause severe irritation of the respiratory system. Use a NIOSH approved cartridge with a full-face shield. For exposure above 20 ppm use a self-contained breathing apparatus.
INGESTION: If conscious, give the exposed person large quantities of water or milk. DO NOT induce vomiting. Get immediate medical attention.
IN ALL CASES: GET PROMPT MEDICAL ATTENTION IF ADVERSE EFFECTS PERSIST
PHYSICIAN NOTE: beware of late onset of pulmonary edema for up to 48 hours. Treat severe burns similar to hydrofluoric acid exposure.
PRIMARY ROUTES OF ENTRY: Skin, eyes, inhalation, ingestion.
HYGIENE: Wash
hands and face before eating or drinking.
SECTION 7 PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING, STORAGE AND USE
SPILLS AND LEAKS: Contain to prevent loss to the environment. Collect excess material. Provide adequate ventilation. Use a NIOSH approved respirator if fumes are excessive.
STORAGE AND HANDLING: Keep containers tightly closed. Store at ambient temperatures.
WASTE DISPOSAL: Follow recommendations of local, state and federal regulations.
EMPTY CONTAINERS: Rinse with water. Send to a recycling center or return to Wausau Chemical Corporation.
