Materials to Avoid:                   Corrodes most metals when exposed to air. Attacks aluminum and its alloys as well as yellow brass. Reacts with sulfuric acid to form hydrogen chloride which is very corrosive, irritating and reactive.

EYES:              Can cause moderate to severe eye irritation with injury that can be slow to heal. In the event of contact flush with water for 15 minutes. Use chemical goggles when handling this product. Get medical attention if symptoms develop.

 

SKIN:              Can cause skin irritation on repeated or prolonged contact, especially under moist conditions. Use neoprene or rubber gloves and apron when handling this product Wash thoroughly with clean water if contact occurs. Get medical attention if symptoms develop.

 

INHALATION:           Dust can cause irritation of the respiratory system.

 

INGESTION:              Toxicity is low but may cause gastrointestinal irritation and ulceration. Drink large amounts of water. Induce vomiting. Get medical attention.

 

IN ALL CASES:          GET PROMPT MEDICAL ATTENTION IF ADVERSE EFFECTS PERSIST

 

PRIMARY ROUTES OF ENTRY:      Skin, eyes, inhalation, ingestion.

 

HYGIENE:      Wash hands and face before eating or drinking. Wash soiled clothing before wearing again if contact occurs.

SPILLS AND LEAKS:            Contain to prevent loss to the environment. Collect excess material. Flush the residual material to a sanitary sewer.

 

STORAGE AND HANDLING:           Keep containers tightly closed. Calcium chloride will collect moisture and liquefy.  Store at cool and dry conditions. Use cool water when putting into solution as reaction with water is exothermic.

 

WASTE DISPOSAL:              Follow recommendations of local, state and federal regulations.

 

EMPTY CONTAINERS:        Replace and firmly tighten closures. Send to a recycling center or return to Wausau Chemical Corporation.
